Appearing in an AI answer and receiving a qualified enquiry are different outcomes. A useful reporting system keeps them connected without pretending that one automatically causes the other.
A new measurement opportunity
Google announced dedicated generative AI performance reports for Search and Discover on June 3, 2026. Its announcement notes worldwide rollout by August 31. The reports describe impressions, pages, countries, dates and, for Search, devices. That visibility also remains included in overall performance reporting. Read the official announcement.
Build a three-layer dashboard
We recommend separating discovery, website behaviour and business outcomes. This helps prevent a rise in visibility from being presented as a rise in revenue.
- Discovery: monitor which relevant pages appear and the markets they reach.
- Website behaviour: review landing-page engagement and the route to contact or purchase.
- Business outcomes: count qualified enquiries or completed transactions using clearly defined rules.
Use one page group at a time
Start with a coherent group, such as your local service pages. Record the pages, the review period and any changes made. Compare the same group over time and note campaign launches, seasonal demand and website changes that could affect the results.
An illustrative dashboard could show growing AI impressions for a service page while completed enquiries remain flat. The next action is not automatically to publish more articles. First check whether the page reaches the right audience, explains the offer and provides a working enquiry route.
Avoid double counting and false precision
Do not add a subset of visibility to a total that already includes it. Keep the definitions alongside the charts so people understand what each figure represents. Independent datasets also cannot establish a one-to-one journey unless your implementation actually records that connection.
A useful monthly review
Ask which pages gained relevant exposure, which visitors took useful actions and what evidence supports the proposed next change. Assign one owner and one action for each finding. A report should help the team choose work, not simply display larger numbers.
This approach turns a new search feature into a disciplined measurement routine while keeping the commercial objective visible.
